Uber Manila will now accept cash payment!
8:10 PMUber Manila will now accept cash as a mode of payment! |
Good news to all of my fellow co-partners, Uber Manila just announced that starting by next week, Uber Manila will roll out a cash experiment program, this means partners can now accept cash payments starting October 26, 2015.
This is a good news, this will increase the market and as well as ridership for Uber Manila Partners. Please watch the video below for more details about the cash payment for Uber Manila.
Things to remember:
- Green screen means the rider chose the cash payment option.
- If the trip will go through a toll payment, never ask for an extra cash for the toll, it will be automatically placed on the total fare.
- Always make sure that you have enough cash for the change.
- If the box is colored grey, it means the rider chose credit card as payment.
Well there you go! At last our prayers are answered! Uber On guys and looking forward for this new enhancement next week!

What a disappointment. The reason why I love taking uber is because it's cashless. Soon, you will have drivers that will probably cancel your request just because you opted for a credit card payment. Boo uber Manila.
ReplyDeleteNo need to worry about that, as partners/drivers won't see what's your mode of payment til they accept the request. Plus drivers having many cancelled request will be deactivated :) so riders are still safe from abusers. And if you encounter one, we advise that you report them immediately
DeleteThis option will make Uber cars/drivers a target for muggers/hold ups. Why not use a debit card instead.
DeleteWe'll we are sensing that the riders still need a cc or a debit card in order to register.
DeleteThis option will make Uber cars/drivers a target of muggings and holdups. It probably worked in the UK but this will be detrimental to Uber Manila.
DeleteIt will also open up the possibility of regular cab drivers harassing Uber cars drivers...
I'm a Rider. But I worry for the Drivers more than us Riders with this new scheme. Riders can abuse this by not paying cash, coupled with a threat of negative feedback if the Driver fights back. Cashless transactions ensure that exchange of service and payment is secure and fair between both parties. I'm not so sure if that will be preserved with this new payment scheme.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your opinion we appreciate your concerns for us drivers. But don't fret as Uber Manila will surely do something about security for its partners just what like they did in UK, before they activate a rider account the rider should provide a national ID if they don't have a credit card, plus they also need to provide another source of payment like paypal and google wallet. We are pretty sure that Uber Manila will have an extra steps for the partner's safety.
ReplyDeleteThanks for replying! May we know exactly what these extra measures are to protect the Drivers? I just also thought of a scenario wherein a Rider might have underestimated the cash he/she has with him/her. What happens if the Rider fails to pay the Driver the correct fare?
DeleteUber will pay the driver, and penalize the rider :)
DeleteHmm.. I can still think of ways wherein the Rider may be able to get away with it. I won't go into the specifics anymore. I just hope you're right and Uber makes this new scheme airtight.
DeleteAnyway, hopefully the tests can provide Uber with sufficient information with how to proceed with this.
Thanks for taking time to reply. :)
Hi,
DeleteYes you are right there are many ways to out do the system, but it be best not to exploit it and just email uber to help make it better :)
Yes we are also looking forward for the best outcome :)
This is bad for me as an operator I applied for uber since it is cashless meaning less worry for us operators to get remittance from drivers I hope uber gets my point
DeleteIt is still advisable to get a driver that you can trust, if you can't trust your driver then it is much better to replace him/her.
DeleteBut we feel you, it's a matter of trust between the operator and driver.
Uber is just really doing its business as normal and it is part of a business growth by adding new income stream.
Maybe instead of forcing Partners to accept cash payments. There should be a switch for Partners to toggle if they want cash Riders to be referred to them or not. Uber should just then give incentives to those who choose to get referred to cash paying Riders.
DeleteThat's really a good idea, we have submitted the suggestions to uber manila, hoping for the best of the outcome :)
DeleteLets wait and see! UBER will have 24 /7 a security , towing service with the full support of LTFRB / LTO / MMDA and specially the highway patrol group ( PNP ) very soon.
ReplyDeleteLet's dream . pray and act . Approved Executive Order will release soon with the new PRESIDENT and cabinets.
How to use cash payment? My Uber is up to date but in payment options, there's no cash payment. I'm using my debit card and my card has no cash already. I want to use cash payment for Uber but I can't find the option and can't book a ride. Help please
ReplyDeleteHi Mark,
DeleteAt the moment, some riders do have the option to pay cash, uber will email the selected riders for the experimental cash program till nov 6.
Then hopefully it will be permenently implemented by Dec and will be available for all riders.
Instead of cash, why not accept debit cards instead. It is so easy to open an account. You only need PhP100 to open and maintain your account. If a rider is not able to get this kind of account, chances are, he will not have the cash/ capability to pay for his ride. If the debit balance is insufficient, Uber will know it and will have solid proof that the rider indeed didn't have enough money to pay for his ride. Unlike the cash payment scheme, how would Uber know that the rider did not pay the whole amount? Just trust the driver's report?
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteWe still feel that people will need a credit card or debit card before they can register in Uber, it is not yet clear but the experiment is going to that direction.
For me.. If uber would like to increase the riders i think it would be better to allow riders to use their atm/debit cards than cash coz almost every person in metro manila that are working have a atm/debit cards. And 1 more thing i think it would be a threat to the security of both riders and drivers..
ReplyDeleteYes we totally agree with you. Only if Uber do advertise its service here in Manila.
Deletehow can i register using cash payment option? there is no option in the registration for cash.. only credit card. please help. thanks..
ReplyDeleteThere's no option for that yet. The other way around is to get a debit card.
DeletePersonally, I'm cautious about cash payment. For the safety of partners and prospective operators, we suggest that it should be at least a debit card. Thanks and God bless.
ReplyDeletehi Marnel,
ReplyDeleteThat's one of our concerns too..
